Considerations in your Educational Software Purchase

There are numerous things to consider when purchasing educational software. These points are only guidelines, but help you evaluate the significance of different factors to your choices.

These aren't placed in any specific order, but think about your responses to these carefully prior to getting any educational software. Your learning success and software enjoyment will profit from any research done before your buy.

  • Price: Have you found the best price for the product? You can search other software sites to get get a feel for shipping costs and prices. Also note features like no sales tax states and free shipping.
  • User's age: Will your young children or teenager be using the product? Be certain the software is age-appropriate. Maybe Sponge Bob Squarepants could teach your children to type, but you probably want a more adult typing software program!
  • Does it fit the user's learning style? Does your child best learn by taking quizzes or solving puzzles or playing adventure games? Find programs that feature their learning style.
  • Will it be interesting to the user? Seek educational software that is self-paced and features an interactive story or cartoon character.
  • System Requirements: Will the software run on your computer? Any good educational software site will specify the system requirements your computer must have in order to run the software program well. Make sure you read this carefully.
  • Return/Exchange Policies: Will the retailer accept returns or exchanges? How complicated is it to make a return? If the educational software you purchase doesn't fit your needs or doesn't run on your computer, you will want to exchange the program for one that you enjoy.
  • Availability: If its possible, determine if the software is currently in stock. Search shipping options. Is the product available for immediate download?
  • In the market for software programs by title or by topic? If you know the title of the software you're trying to find, then you have likely already done your homework. But, if the only thing you know is that you are looking for a way to help you to learn to speak Spanish, then carefully look at the options of each of the many selections and learning techniques available.

Examining these important factors will make sure that you and your children will make the choice that will optimize the usability of your product and your learning experience.
