Paralegals are often employed by corporations and the government. In these work environments, you would usually be expected to work 40-hours a week, but there may be pressure to meet deadlines (especially at a law firm). Times of extra pressure may require longer hours. As a trade off, many law firms will reward paralegals with bonuses and additional time off during slower periods. Therefore, a paralegal career path can be lucrative.
Paralegals usually work at desks in offices and law libraries. There may be some travel required for some paralegal positions.
Computer skills are a must for paralegals in the current age. Most legal research is now performed on a computer so training with computer databases is required. Paralegals often need to retrieve, organize and index research materials with computer software. Billing software is also used as well as imagine software for scanning in documents. Expect that a career as a paralegal will include lots of computer use.
